Racial Diversity and Inclusion in Intercollegiate Sport
The 2018 College Sport Racial and Gender Report Card (CSRGRC) was released by the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport. The report looked closely into the racial and gender hiring practices and student-athlete representation at the NCAA and its member institutions as one of its core values._x000D_
For the number of people of color in professional administrative employment, even though the 2018 report card showed slight improvement compared to previous years, this trend was not replicated at the administrative and coaching at NCAA member institutions. For instance, in the upper leadership position at Division I, II, and III athletic departments, 84 percent, 90 percent and 93 percent of the athletic directors are white. In terms of developing and promoting racially diverse workforce in college athletics, the current pipeline leading into the leadership positions does not reflect the nation’s changing demographics. _x000D_
On the session, evaluation of existing policies will be discussed and then potential approaches including current policy changes as well as incorporating new sports will be considered to improve racial diversity and inclusion at NCAA member institutions.
